History

Mark Moor Bowling Club was formed in December 1984 as an indoor bowls club in Mark Village Hall under the chairmanship of Roy Norris. The enthusiastic players soon decided to build their own outdoor bowling green and the hard work preparing the ground commenced in 1986 with the official opening by the President of the Somerset Ladies Bowling Association in the summer of 1987 with the first major match being played against Porlock in 1989.

The bulk of this work was done by the members themselves, as was the construction of a clubhouse which was completed in 2004. We are very proud of the quality of our green, now among the best in the county, which has improved greatly under the stewardship firstly of Neville Ham and latterly David Urwin. Most of the maintenance of the green, the clubhouse and surrounds continues to be done by the voluntary efforts of club members. A new changing room for the men was completed in 2020 as was the new bar, while the kitchen was extended and renewed in time for the 2021 season.
